ASPEN WEATHER

What Are The Best Things to Do in the Summer?

  1. Definitely plan a trip to Marble –  great BBQ place there (although the same one is also now in snowmass village also)   (McClure Pass Area)
    1. We did a horseback ride over there that was fabulous -- going through the Redstone Historic District is really pretty.   If you go to  marble, drive past the turn off and drive up McClure pass for about 2-3 miles.  The elevation gain is significant, and the views down the valley are fabulous.   You don't need to go to the top, but then just turn around and head back.
    2. Late in the day the sunset around the lake near Marble is great
    3. Also the crazy trip to Crystal Fall (?) is pretty good but it can get super crowded.
  2. Maroon Bells – bus up or go early in the car.   Ashcroft is also a great run.
  3. Independence Pass trip – definitely find the Grotto and poke around there for an hour or two.  that is Super easy to get to with some nice falls.
  4. We went rock climbing with a guide on the way to independence pass and it was really fun (and scary for me as a total rookie).  Took me an hour to clear the adrenaline out of my system.
  5. Bike from Snowmass or Aspen down to Woody’s Creek (pretty wimpy and easy), and even further to Basalt or Carbondale.  You can go to Glenwood Springs, but maybe not worth it).  You'll likely want to bus back.
  6. Great fly fishing in lots of places.   If you go without a guide, I like near woody creek. It's just so easy to get to and park.
  7. If you guys are REALLY game, hike Mt. Sopris – 14k ft.    (That’s way too much for me, but it starts about 8k)
  8. I would definitely raft the Roaring Fork --  (if you can get the inflatable kayaks – IMHO more fun than the 8 person rafts.  I like this better than trucking all the way Glenwood Springs to the Colorado river. )
  9. The RIM Trail -- it's the ridgeline across from the house to the north (mostly).  You can start from the house and walk through the village, across the creek and then start up the trail.  Walk as far  as you want and then return back the same way.   Or take it to the end and down to the road and take a shuttle back.
  10. You can also take the Tom Blake Trail from Owl Creek Road and back to the house. Or again start at the house and walk to the trailhead and then shuttle back to the village.
  11. If you're wiped out and at the village, you can take the elevator at the Westin to the top floor, walk as far as you can to the south, and then take an exit and walk almost straight across to the house.  The elevator knocks out about 5 floors of elevation.
